Gosfield Hall Wedding Venue

This Essex wedding venue is easily one of the best wedding venues in Essex for couples who are looking for an elegant and grandeur wedding venue to celebrate their wedding day. Gosfield hall is, in my opinion, one of the very finest weddings venues in the county of Essex and has also been nominated as the best venue to get married in the UK.

The staff who run the wedding venue at Gosfield hall are absolutely charming, and provide a class leading experience. From the grounds, that are immaculately kept, to the simply stunning and breathtaking rooms. No detail is overlooked in pursuit of excellence.

A brief history of Gosfield Hall

A royal residence

Gosfield Hall is a Georgian Mansion, built-in 1545 by Sir John Wentworth and in the mid to late 16th Century, The venue often hosted visits by Queen Elizabeth I.

In the late 17th century, during the French revolution, the future King of France, Louis XVIII & his wife, Marie Joséphine of Savoy made Gosfield hall their home after they fled from France. They lived at Gosfield Hall from 1807-1809.

In its current guise, Gosfield Hall is a truly wonderful wedding venue, nestled in the beautiful and rural Essex countryside and boasts some wonderful features that are rarely bettered anywhere else.

ceremony rooms & dining

There is no shortage of glorious locations around Gosfield Hall to say I do and there are up to three places to have your wedding ceremony in style. Below are the places where you can officially tie the knot.

the grand Salon & The queens Gallery

The Grand Salon. A beautiful and elegant room with period features which as its name suggests is very grand. (pictured above). This particular room is my favourite with its wonderful white decor and high painted ceiling, coupled with double sash windows allows for beautiful light to flood the room and is ideal for me as a wedding photographer.

The Queen’s gallery with a huge 120ft long aisle ensures that the bride gets all the attention. With oak panelling throughout the gallery, it really is a beautiful ceremony room.

The courtyard

On a more mild and warm wedding day, you can opt to have your wedding ceremony outside with the original carriageway being the ideal place for this, where the courtyard will make a wonderful backdrop or you can have the ceremony outside the gates of the carriageway, though on a scorching hot day the sun beats down hard and can be quite hot for your wedding guests – the bride and groom are typically under shade though.

Don’t let the threat of hot weather put you off though, on more mild days or hot days, the courtyard is a wonderful place to say I do. There is a certain elegance about the courtyard that is so fitting for a wedding.

the ballroom

The Ballroom is the chosen place for your wedding breakfast and in my opinion, is the best room to entertain a wedding for fine dining and speeches. The minute you walk into this room, you really do feel like you could be dining with royalty. For dining, the Ballroom can accommodate up to 116 seated guests easily and your guests will fall in love with it’s highly decorated ceiling, the wood panelling, and its jaw-dropping crystal chandeliers. Situated at either end of the Ballroom are full feature length mirrors that give the room a bigger perception, not that the ballroom needs mirrors to make it appear larger though.

Whenever I work at Gosfield, the ballroom is always that place that makes me imagine what an Elizabethan period in England would have been like. Elegant ladies with fine ball gowns and gentleman in period dress enjoying an extravagant ball.

If there is one room that every bride talks about at Gosfield hall, then it has to be the Rococco room! This is by far and away the best bridal suite I have ever had the pleasure of working in & trust me when I say I have come across loads of bridal suites and nothing beats this room. The minute you walk into the room you are greeted to pure elegance. It is a statement room and not only does the bridal party get to enjoy the splendor that this room is but also the happily married couple get to spend their first night together as a married couple in the charm and beauty that the Rococco suite offers.

The en suite is another example of just how grandiose the suite is. A timeless room with modern amenities such as a huge whirlpool bath. You will know that you have got wed in style when you wake up in the beautiful four-poster bed. Honestly, you have to see the room to believe it – simply stunning!
