Abi & Peter – A hot wedding in every sense
The summer of 2022 was the hottest on record in the UK. 11th August sat right in the middle of it – the kind of day where the air feels solid and the shade becomes a commodity. Woodhall Manor in Suffolk, with its walled gardens and mature grounds, dealt with it as well as anywhere could. The light was extraordinary. The heat was relentless. Everyone was very good-natured about both.
Woodhall Manor is a Suffolk venue – a change of county for me, and one of the things I enjoy about weddings outside Essex is arriving somewhere with fresh eyes. The manor house, the walled garden, the grounds – all of it photographed beautifully in that intense August light, once we found the right shade at the right moments.
Abi and Peter took the conditions entirely in their stride. There’s something about extreme heat at a wedding that strips away any pretence – nobody is standing on ceremony when it’s 38 degrees – and the photographs from the day have that quality. Loose, warm, funny in places.
